For the amateurs of water sports, canyoning is a fun and safe activity following fully equipped routes. I offer excursions in the canyons of the Ubaye and the Barcelonnette Valley (in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, 2.5 hours from Marseille), where the descents are flowing with water (you will definitely get wet) no matter the water level of the Ubaye river. The itinerary follows the riverbed and in the more challenging sections, we use some climbing techniques. Wetsuits and appropriate footwear will be provided.

 

Initiation canyoning:

The beginner’s route is a descent of 2 to 2.5 hours in the canyon. It’s a progressive itinerary starting with some small waterfalls of 5–6 metres to test the water temperature and finishing with several abseils of about 10 metres. The descents can be adapted according to the groups, depending if you prefer big or small showers on the way down …

 

 

 

Expert Canyoning:

The beginner’s route can be followed by the advanced route which will add 1.5 hours to the first descent, meaning an itinerary of 4 hours in total. This section of the canyon is much narrower and more impressive. It’s the right choice if you’re looking for big thrills: more water (with a second riverbed joining the first one), highter waterfalls (up to 25 metres) and very narrow passages with a final ascension by a via ferrata just above the Ubaye river (this section is also one of the favourites amongst keen kayakers).

Apart from the canyoning descents, the Ubaye river is a great for other water sports (unlike the Verdon river which is more frequented by families than sports amateurs) like rafting, kayaking or white water swimming.
